We’re all doing the best we can with the tools that we have.
When a client is disappointed in herself for yelling at her partner, I remind her that she was raised in a family where yelling was the norm, and this was the tool she learned from childhood.
When a client judges herself harshly for unhealthy eating, I mention that she learned to eat as a coping mechanism, and it’s currently the best tool she has for helping to calm her emotions.
Unfortunately, our modern-day society doesn’t give us all that many tools.
We get the usual math and science in high school; but we don’t have a class on relationships, healthy communication, or how to handle difficult emotions.
We have no formal education on clarifying our values or learning about our boundaries, and we rarely talk about cultivating self-love and self-compassion.
Our society focuses on intellectual education over emotional education, and we are left to fill in the gaps.
I help you develop your own tools.
… by learning to tune into your wants, needs, and desires.
First, we determine what’s missing: What is it that you really want out of life? Greater self-confidence to stand up for yourself in uncomfortable situations? Better communication skills to build deeper relationships? More self-knowledge to connect with your passion as you decide your career path?
As you get clearer on your goals, I help you pave the pathway toward them. We explore past events that might be holding you back, processing them by discussing what happened and allowing the emotions to arise and be felt. You will find that as we reclaim these parts of your past, you will gain greater freedom in building your future.
As we process past feelings of powerlessness, you will find yourself feeling more powerful, able to stand up for yourself and your needs, positively transforming your relationships.
You will feel freedom from the shackles of old patterns and a newfound openness to show up differently in the world. You will develop the confidence to chase your dreams and the self-love that encourages self-care in everything you do.
Bringing you closer to your inner wisdom…
Our work together isn’t about what I have to offer – it’s about what you have to offer.
I help you get closer to you by encouraging you to turn your attention inward and see what your body, mind and spirit have to say.
It can feel subtle, but as you learn to tune in and listen to your inner wisdom, you become able to tune out what others think is best for you.
I’m not an expert on your experience…
But I am an expert in helping you deepen into your experience. In my office, you will notice your emotions and reactions, allow yourself to process them, and find the power to be fully and authentically yourself.
Talking about your issues can feel like a huge relief and is a necessary first step in therapy. But effective therapy goes deeper than just talking.
It involves feeling your emotions, uncovering parts of your subconscious, and being in relationship with yourself and with me. In fact, the client-therapist relationship is one of the most important pieces of healing, and I work hard to cultivate a strong relationship with each of my clients.
I’m not your run-of-the-mill professional.
I never wear pant suits. I don’t get drinks at happy hour. And I don’t have a ten-year plan.
Instead, I dabble in alternative lifestyles such as van-life, minimalism, and festivaling.
I’m part of the movement to legalize psychedelics.
And my friends describe me as downright weird.
I like to think that my experience with alternative lifestyles makes me more open-minded and understanding.
I love to work with people from all walks of life…
… and I welcome you into my practice with open arms.
If my words speak to you, don’t delay.
